Elena Ferrante (born in Naples, Italy) is an Italian writer.
She is an extremely reclusive writer and as such not much is known of her true identity or her current location.[1] It has been postured that Ferrante is in fact a pen name for the male Italian writer Domenico Starnone.[2] There is much speculation as to this on Italian internet boards.[2] She is quoted as having "devastating power as a novelist"[3] and as being a "fine writer".[2] Her most known works include The Lost Daughter (La Figlia Oscura) and Nasty Love (L'amore molesto). L'amore molesto was turned into a feature film directed by Mario Martone. The Days of Abandonment (I Giorni dell'abbandono) was also turned into a film, directed by Roberto Faenza. In her 2003 book La Frantumaglia she speaks of her experiences as a writer.
